Martha "Dumptruck" Dunnstock, portrayed by Carrie Lynn, is a minor character of the cult classic film Heathers, and a secondary character in the musical. She is often seen being relentlessly teased throughout the film and often being the butt of fat jokes.

She attempts suicide after not being able to take the bullying anymore, but survives and befriends Veronica at the end of the film.

Early Life[]

Not much is said about Martha's early life other than being shown that she was childhood friends with Heather Duke.

Appearance[]

As repeatedly noted by students, Martha is overweight, and dresses unfashionably. She has fair skin and short brown puffy hair.

Personality[]

Quiet, afraid, shy and emotionally bruised, Martha is a sensitive girl who dreams of loving and being loved, but instead she is shunned and mistreated by others, and too afraid to stand up for herself. She is a constant target for severe and relentless bullying due to her being overweight. She is shown to have trust issues, as she does not believe Veronica's apology for calling her fat, crying and claiming that she's lying about feeling sorry.

Despite her having endured through the bullying throughout the years, she eventually succumbs to the cruelty and attempts suicide, but luckily survives.

In the ending of the movie when Veronica befriends her, much more of her personality and voice is revealed; a sweet, sensible young woman who still keeps hoping for the best, despite everything she went through.

Attempted Suicide[]

Martha jumped off a bridge but survived with broken bones.

Relationships[]

Heather Duke[]

Martha Dunnstock and Heather Duke were close friends during their childhood. It isn't explained why the friendship ceased, but it is made clear that Heather Duke does not want anyone at Westerburg High to know or remember about their past friendship. Duke goes as far as mocking Martha for attempting suicide, showing no remorse nor sympathy.

Veronica Sawyer[]

Veronica and Martha's first interaction is when the former is forced by Heather Chandler to forge a love note from Kurt to her, which leads to Martha being ridiculed when she walks up to him and shows him the letter, in which he laughs at her, causing her to storm out of the cafeteria. Despite making the note, Veronica did not laugh at the ridicule and becomes fed up at being cruel to people, especially Martha. At some later point, Veronica calls her fat (As the Heathers were doing the same, and she was being influenced), but tries to apologize afterwards. Martha cries and believes her apology to not be genuine.

Veronica, hearing of her suicide attempt, is very worried and asks Duke if she had survived. Duke responds and confirms she survived, but then mocks her for "trying to be popular", to which Veronica, in defense of the absent and injured Martha, slaps her.

At the end of the film, free at last of the Heathers' toxic influence, Veronica Sawyer makes amends with Martha and invites her to hang out on prom night and watch movies with her, to which she accepts. This is the start of their friendship.
